I have read several articles online about claiming unclaimed dividends. While I do not personally have any unclaimed dividends, my late parents and uncles do.
I would like to know if it is possible to transfer their shares to my name or gain access to and manage them.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how to proceed.
@nduson Do you have a stockbroker? Write to them and tell them you want to transfer your parents’ shares. If you are the next of KIN indicated on the form during purchase this should be seamless. But for your uncle, I am not sure you can lay claim directly because your uncle has children (I assume), just talk to your broker, they have updated requirements on share transfer
@ globfolio Thank you so much for your response, sir. It truly means a lot to me.
I currently have an account with the Afrinvestor 2.0 app, which I recently downloaded. I have only used it to test buying stocks. Can I consider Afrinvest as my stockbroker based on this?
Regarding the next of kin on the shares, I am unsure whose name was listed. After watching one of your videos, I did some research and discovered that my late parents and uncles held shares in multiple companies.
If my name is not listed as the next of kin, does that mean we have lost access to the shares? What steps can I take to claim or manage them?
I would truly appreciate your guidance on this matter. Thank you in advance for your help.
@nduson Afrinvest is a registered and active broker on the Nigerian stock exchange platform (from my last check), you are safe doing business with them.
I think they are in the best position to provide further guidance of how to claim the shares of your parents if your name is not on the next of kin.
Please let us know what their response is in case you reach out to them?
